WELLINGTON ended their lean spell with a 1-0 home win over fifth-placed Barnstaple Town in the Premier Division of the Toolstation League last night (Wed).

After a goalless first half, Wellington took the lead in the 50th minute when Stefan Phillips lobbed the ball into the penalty box and defender David Slade turned it past his own goalkeeper.

And they almost scored again in the 72nd minute when Ryan Brereton's shot was pushed onto the crossbar and Miles Quick pounced to steer the ball home.

However, the 'goal' was ruled out.This was a pleasing result for Wellington's joint managers Tim Legg and Alex Pope, particularly after finishing with a clean sheet following two 4-0 losses.

Wellington have another home game in the league on Saturday - to Cadbury Heath (3p.m.).
