OUTDOOR sport has taken a hammering from the bad weather today (Sat) with most local football games being called off.
Wellington's first team were due to play away to Street in the Premier Division of the Toolstation League hoping to end the year with a victory but this was postponed because of a waterlogged pitch. Street informed Wellington at about 10.30a.m. to avoid them making a fruitless journey.
Wellington Reds were due to play Alcombe Rovers in Division Two of the Taunton Saturday League at the Playing Field but the pitch, too, was too wet following days of rain. The decision, however, was not made until late in the morning in a bid to play the match.
Wellington A were scheduled to play Wellington Road Dons in a crucial game in Division One of the Saturday League at Fivehead but the outcome was the same - no play.
Consequently, Wellington A go into the New Year having lost only one league game and top of the table with Dons only a point behind.
The first half of the season has been hard hit by the weather - frost and rain - making it a nightmare for club fixture secretaries.
Meanwhile, Wellington have a new date for their postponed Somerset Premier Cup quarter-final away to Southern League Larkhall Athletic - February 12.
