WELLINGTON, having virtually clinched the title in the Somerset Division of the West of England Premier Cricket League, now have one last aim - to end the season unbeaten.

Wellington have already set a record-breaking run of 14 successive victories and now want to end with wins in their last two fixtures - away to North Petherton today, weather permitting, and home to Taunton on the last day of the season.

Wellington have already beaten Petherton this season but the Bridgwater outfit have not lost since early July and have moved up to fifth in the table.

Wellington are currently 42 points ahead of second-placed Chard with both teams having only two games left. Technically, there are 48 points available to both sides.

"It is almost impossible to achieve this," said Wellington chairman Mark Salter. "But until we have crossed the line, we will not be celebrating.

"It has been a brilliant season. We're solid throughout the side and we've shown in several matches that we don't know when we're beat.

"We have a lot of players who can get us out of trouble and last week it was George Ruell who scored 102 not out against Butleigh. It was a good result against Butleigh because of the weather conditions."

Some supporters might have been surprised by Arron Campbell's decision against Butleigh to bat first, especially when Wellington slumped to 3-22. But Ruell remained rock-solid and was still there after 40 overs
