A NYNEHEAD shooting range has been partially destroyed in a ‘freak’ wildfire that broke out on Sunday, July 13.

It has been reported that the Ling Shooting range is temporarily closed for health and safety reasons.

Co-owner, instructor and five-time British Champion, World Cup and Commonwealth Medalist, Abbey Ling discovered the fire had taken hold on her return from a competition in Italy.

She said: “The fire destroyed quite a lot from stands one to 12, and the grass has been burnt to a crisp and clays melted.”

“Thankfully my in-laws were at the farm when it broke out and were able to stop the fire from spreading further.”

Fire services were called to the site at 1pm, and worked to extinguish the field fire which was “well alight”.

Crews left the scene by 3pm.
