WORK on turning the former Warrens Bakery into a microbar in High Street, Wellington, will start next month providing an application for a licence is successful on Friday, March 12.

Mother-of-two Karina Macri, who is behind the project, said yesterday: “This is the last hurdle aside from Covid, of course. Hopefully, we can all enjoy a restriction-free pint when the weather warms.”

Karina announced in January that she was still going ahead with her ‘business plan’ despite lockdown. She added: “My main focus will be providing customers with a unique, personal pub experience. I’m all about conversation and local produce.”

A number of small licensed premises have closed in the Wellington area over the past few years. The former Warrens Bakery is also one of several empty shops in and around the town centre, including the ‘Kings Arms’ and the E J Teare building.
