PARENTS had to change how hundreds of children got to school this morning with some buses unable to run due to icy condition.

Five buses transporting children to three different schools have been affected across the Mid Devon and Blackdown areas on the Wellington border.

The schools affected were Uffculme School, Hemyock Primary School, which is on the Blackdown Hills, and Culmstock Primary School. near Uffculme.

Devon County Council alerted parents in the early hours of the morning about disruption to transport with one of two reasons being given depending on the bus. The first warning read: "The bus couldn't get up the hills due to the icy conditions this morning.”

The other warning provided by the same council stated: "The AM route is unable to run because of the lanes being impassable with ice. An assessment will be made around midday/lunchtime regarding the PM route viability.”
