AN elderly male driver was airlifted to hospital after a road traffic collision at Beambridge Hill, Sampford Arundel, yesterday (Wednesday) evening.

Fire crews stabilised the vehicle and helped two elderly passengers from it before using hydraulic cutting equipment to free the driver.

The passengers were taken to hospital by land ambulance, as were the driver and passenger of the other vehicle, who were walking wounded.

Three fire appliances from Wellington and Taunton attended the incident at 6.25pm at the request of the ambulance service.
