THE ‘coming of the light’ and leaving winter nights behind will be celebrated in a unique to Wellington ‘Blaize ’n’ Bridget’ folk event at 7.30 pm in the town’s Cottage Inn on Saturday (February 7).

The evening sees the sweating in of the new Bishop Blaize, patron saint of wool-combers, and St Bridget/Brigit, patron saint of spinners/weavers, healing, poetry, smith craft, hearth, the eternal flame, ‘Bringer of Light’.

Also present will be the Oath Swearer, Mordred the Dragon, and Lord Misrule/Mr DoubleDanger the 2nd for a ceremony featuring demonstrations, recitals, and songs in veneration for Blaize and Bridget.

Bootstrap Border Morris will then perform some of their wild dances and music, followed by traditional folk tunes and songs in the bar.
