A HERITAGE open day will be held next month in the Spiceland Quaker Meeting House, near Uffculme.

Quakers, formally titled the Religious Society of Friends, will be showing people around the historic property and its burial grounds from 2 pm to 5 pm on Sunday, September 13.

Visitors are invited to take a picnic with them to enjoy in the grounds.

Spiceland is signposted from the A38 and is part of the larger West Somerset Area Quaker Meeting.

Stone-built in 1815, it has its roots in the 1660s when the founder of the movement, George Fox, preached in the open air in an orchard on the land.

Among those buried there are Mark and Robert Cadbury, of Burlescombe, whose brother John Cadbury founded the Birmingham chocolate making dynasty.
