MORE than £2,000 of ‘extreme’ prizes are being offered in a competition by local businesses to celebrate the official opening on Saturday (September 26) of Wellington Pumptrack.

For only £1 a ticket, entrants could win either a custom painted helmet from Race Paint Customs, of Westpark 26, Wellington, or a pumptrack frame and fork set from HardTail Heaven, in Taunton.

People can buy up to 500 tickets, and Race Paint Customs is launching a limited ‘opening weekend ticket bundle offer’.

Ticket sales will fund the next stage of development by the Wellington pumptrack, skatepark, and dirt jumps group to regenerate the skatepark behind Wellington Sports Centre.

Race Paint Customs owner Rob Scurlock said: “It was a no-brainer for me.

“I grew up riding street and dirt jumps.

“Seeing the pump track installed and learning about the future plans from Olly Edmondston-Low and the development group, I wanted to give something back to help raise money.

“Wellington Town Council has been fantastic, and it has really brought the community together.

“Hopefully, future plans will continue to offer the best facilities locally.

“A big thanks to Darren at Hardtail Heaven, his generosity with the bike frame prize was totally unexpected.

“I highly encourage everybody to enter, the combined prizes are worth over £2,500.

“Darren’s bike builds are incredible, so check out his shop.”

The competition runs until October 31 and the entry link can be found via the Race Paint Customs Facebook and Instagram pages.

The pumptrack opening ceremony is at 10 am and will feature professional riding demonstrations arranged by the track’s designers Clark and Kent.

There will also be a demonstration of remote control cars, although the local club based in Rockwell Green will only be using the track at quiet times.
