THE manufacturer of new public conveniences for Wellington has hit back in a row over the quality of the toilet block, which was delivered in July but remains closed.

The town council publicly criticised Danfo (UK) Ltd and said there were more than 80 faults in the £220,000 Longforth Road modular building, many of which had not been put right.

But, the Blackpool-based company said it was ‘saddened and disappointed’ to read the council’s statement and wanted to meet to ‘find a positive conclusion’.

A spokesperson said the ‘client and primary contractor’ for the job was BVLR, with which it had been working closely, along with ‘other layers of appointed support partners to deliver this project on time and on budget’.

The spokesperson said: “It is certainly fair to say that every construction project can have its unique periodic challenges that must be professionally navigated.

“We, our client, and our partners take our responsibilities in this regard and on this specific project very seriously and are committed to working closely together in meeting our common objectives and obligations.

“Unfortunately, we do not recognise the full validity regarding some of the alleged contractual breaches, delivery issues, and challenges referenced in the council’s statement.”

The spokesperson said Danfo was attempting to ‘fully understand’ if the council knew the full ‘context and factual detail’.

They said: “We are also disappointed the council chose not raise or clarify these concerns with Danfo, the primary contractor, before publishing its statement.

“Nothing is more satisfying to our teams than to see another of our facilities utilised and enjoyed by the public it was designed to serve.

“Danfo has successfully delivered countless similar inclusive facilities for councils across the UK and Ireland.

“We assure all readers that top priority for us is to see this facility open and adding value for residents as soon as possible.”
