NEW public toilets in Wellington town centre appeared on Sunday (August 9) to be on schedule to open for business this week.

The £220,000 Longforth Road toilet block was delivered at the end of last month and contractors have since been installing fittings, plumbing, and electrics, and carrying out the necessary ground works.

The modular construction building replaces one which was badly damaged and later demolished after a car drove into it nearly four years ago.

The toilets provide three unisex cubicles, two with baby and toddler changing facilities, and one of which is ‘accessible’ for disabled people.

The town council also plans to install £7,000 of protective bollards on the pavement to the front of the building to prevent any repetition of the 2022 car strike.
