TWO village bungalow homes near Wellington were damaged by fire as trick-or-treating was well underway on Saturday evening (October 31).
The Halloween blaze started just after 5.30 pm as an ‘external’ fire in Langford Budville.
But, the fire, which was unattended, then spread to a nearby bungalow.
Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue received a number of 999 emergency calls about the incident and mobilised firefighters from Wellington and Taunton.
The crews on arrival found the fire had spread to a bungalow roof and they set to work with a hose reel to tackle the flames.
The firefighters had to rip off roof tiles to gain access to the loft of the bungalow and also a neighbouring property.
The next-door building was not affected by the flames but it did suffer smoke damage.
A hose reel and ladder were used, and a positive pressure ventilation fan was deployed to clear smoke from the neighbouring properties.
The first bungalow suffered about 40 per cent fire damage to its roof space.

- The Wellington brigade has also been reunited with equipment which was stolen while crews helped free motorists from a three-car crash in the town on October 28. Two Peli blue flashing starfish-shape lights were taken from the scene, but were found and returned within two days.
