TRAFFIC in Wellington town centre was back to normal on Friday morning (May 15) after emergency gas works were completed half-a-day early.

Wales and West Utilities engineers had been working on site in Longforth Road since Monday and were scheduled to complete the job some time during Friday.

However, they wrapped it up late on Thursday afternoon and removed a set of four-way temporary traffic lights which had been causing queues of vehicles more than half-a-mile long at peak times.
