HERITAGE Sunday was recognised in Hemyock with a photographic display and video featuring many past and present villagers and events.

It was held in St Mary’s Church with the help of Michael Cooper and other members of the village history group and attracted a large number of visitors.

The Shepherd family also opened Hemyock Castle for visitors, while the church organised a duck race along St Margaret’s Stream which runs between both properties, and served refreshments.

Visitors also had an opportunity to hear about the church project ‘Ringing into the Future’.

The project includes restoring the bell tower, improving accessibility, removing front pews, and repairing a crack in the chancel wall.

The work is currently estimated to cost about £300,000.
