THOUSANDS of homes and businesses in the Wellington area were without power on Wednesday morning (January 7) as temperatures were at a chilly four degrees.
Electricity supplies were cut shortly before 10.30 am in the east of the town and across an area stretching along the A38 through Bradford on Tone as far as the outskirts of Taunton.
More than 2,300 properties were affected, but supplies had been restored to 2,138 within about the first hour.
National Grid said remaining customers were likely to have their electricity back by about 1.30 pm.
A spokesperson said: “There is a fault on the high voltage power lines and we are getting this sorted as a priority.”
The area affected covers many of the premises which suffered a succession of power failures in the latter half of last year.
