A WELLINGTON man who caused a disturbance in the town centre has been fined by magistrates for his behaviour - just a week short of one year since the offence happened.

Karl Matthews, aged 59, of Gay Close, had denied the offence when he appeared before the magistrates in Taunton Deane Court on January 9, but changed his plea to guilty when he reappeared on Friday (June 5).

Matthews was charged with one count of using threatening or abusive words or behaviour which was likely to have caused harassment, alarm, or distress to people on June 14 of last year.

The magistrates said they took into account his guilty plea as they fined Matthews £108 and also ordered him to pay Crown Prosecution Service costs, which amounted to £200.
