SOLICITORS Amicus Law are to move into the old HSBC building on the corner of South Street and Fore Street, Wellington.

The law firm says it chose the town because it is striving, growing, and vibrant, and has good facilities with plenty of new building on its outskirts.

The firm began life in Hammett Street, Taunton, before moving to Rumwell Hall where it will maintain a presence after its move.

Managing partner Stephen Forsey said: “We believe we will complement the law firm which is already in town. There are cases in which one solicitor cannot act for two parties, such as divorce or buying and selling a house.”

He added: “We plan to move into the new building at the beginning of September with a staff of about six or seven.

“We have taken on a long lease and will cover all areas of law.”

Work on refurbishing the bank and turning upstairs into flats has been carried out by local firm Hawkings Cladding.

n HSBC pulled out of Wellingtonin Febraury 2017 and was one of three banks to leave the town over a period of about 18 months, leaving Lloyds as the only bank in Wellington.

The WWN believes the old NatWest building, also in Fore Street, may soon have a new owner, leaving nearby Barclays still to be bought.
