A LOCAL historian has revealed the history of German prisoners of war in Wellington in a newly published booklet.

Louise Winborn, local historian and Wellington Museum steward, recounts the limited history of the Wellington Prisoner of War (POW) Camp, those that were kept there and ultimately stayed in the town.

The booklet, titled ‘German Prisoners of War in Wellington’, shares with readers the lives of POWs, playing sport and performing in their own theatre group, as well as the stories of three German men, two of whom stayed in the area until their death.
