A MAN has been charged and will appear in court next month after an incident in the town centre of Wellington which sparked a large multi emergency services response on Thursday evening (May 7).
It happened in Fore Street in the entrance to the North Street public car park shortly before 5.30 pm as many people were making their way home from work by foot and in vehicles.
Three police cars and a police van, as well as a South Western Ambulance Service NHS Foundation Trust (SWASFT) land ambulance were called to the scene.
A man was taken shortly after by the ambulance for treatment in Musgrove Park Hospital, in Taunton, and a dog was taken away by police.
Vehicle access to the car park was blocked by the ambulance and police officers directed traffic past the incident for about 30 minutes.

Later, three charges in relation to the incident were brought against Karl Matthews, aged 59, of Gay Close, Wellington, who has been scheduled to appear in Taunton Deane Magistrates’ Court on Thursday, June 11.
An Avon and Somerset Constabulary spokesperson told the Wellington Weekly: “Matthews has been charged with using threatening words to cause fear of violence and distress, obstructing an officer in the execution of their duty, and possession of a controlled class B drug, cannabis.
“CCTV and house-to-house inquiries will be carried out while investigations continue.
“Any witnesses and those with information on the incident are urged to call us on 101 quoting reference number 5226125438 or complete our online appeals form.”
A SWASFT spokesperson said: “We were called at 5.29 pm on Thursday, May 7, to an incident in Wellington.
“We sent one double crewed land ambulance to the scene and conveyed one patient by land ambulance to Musgrove Park Hospital.”
