THE highly anticipated work has begun on the new Wellington pump track.

Construction of the new track by contractors Clark & Kent Contractors Ltd began in earnest on the site on Tuesday, July 21 with fencing erected and the area being marked out.

By Wednesday July 22, their diggers were on the recreation ground and began the work in earnest of plotting the curves and shape of the pump track design.

Wellington Town Council released the first images of the track and commented: “The team from Clark and Kent are on site in the recreation ground fencing off the track site.

“In the coming days they’ll be marking out the track and starting to prep the site for the work to come. It’s happening! Excited yet?”

Clark & Kent are specialists in the design and construction of pump tracks, box tracks and skateparks, and designed and built tracks for the London Olympics in 2012.

The Wellington Pumptrack group have visited the site to capture the progress of works with a drone watching the track take shape - first with the grass being cut and then a digger being brought in to forge the first tracks into the soil.

Wellington Town Council previously warned of an increase of construction vehicles in the Beech Grove area as works take place to install the pumptrack which is being built in partnership with the Wellington Sports Federation and Wellington Pumptrack, Skatepark and Dirt Jumps - Somerset.

A crowdfunder set up to raise additional funds for the build has raised 72 percent of its target of £2,000.

The group said: “If you believe in giving young people more opportunities, improving local facilities, and investing in the future of our town, we invite you to contribute to the Wellington Pump Track Project.

“Together, we can transform the Recreation Ground into an even more dynamic and welcoming place for everyone.”

Wellington Town Council said: “We are still seeking donations and support for the Pump Track. Individuals can donate via the GoFundMe page and businesses are invited to email us to set up a donation payment.”
