TWO brand new industrial units on Wellington’s Westpark business park could instead be turned into a takeaway food shop.

Construction of the premises, totalling 6,135 sq ft in size, was only finished by Onyx Business Parks last October.

The units, which sit in a new courtyard development, have planning permission for general industrial, storage, distribution, offices, and research/development uses.

Planning agent James Venton, of James Venton Planning and Building Design, in Wiveliscombe, said his client wanted to add the ability to sell food and drink to be consumed off the premises.

Mr Venton said: “This proposal will see the building used for the processing, packaging and sale of high end coffee.

“The coffee products will be sold to anybody, including the public, from the premises.

“As the product would go hand in hand with the sale of confectionary, cake/biscuits and the like, these products will also be offered for sale to the public.

“The building has only recently been constructed and is still at the moment empty.

“This proposal will not only provide the building with a use, but it will see the equivalent of four full-time employment positions being offered.

“We believe that this modest tweak to an existing use accords with both national and local planning policies.”

Mr Venton said it was expected that people who were employed in other units on the business park would want to walk to the site to make use of the facility.

He said: “The existing building is in situ.

“There are no proposals to alter the existing building in any way.”

Onyx sales manager Lewis Watts said: “The units are smart in design and cater to all types of business looking to start out and expand.

“We are delighted to be part of the vibrant business economy in Wellington and Somerset on a larger scale.”
