TRAFFIC on the M5 motorway near Wellington was being held up on Wednesday afternoon (September 3) after an ‘obstruction’ was reported on the road.

All vehicles on the northbound carriageway were stopped at about 12.30 pm because of the incident, which happened a few miles before Wellington’s junction 26.

It resulted in delays of about 30 minutes for drivers while the obstruction was being cleared.

The motorway was fully reopened by early afternoon.

Junction 26 has been closed since June while Somerset Council reconstructs the carriageway on the roundabout below and also resurfaces the link road to Chelston.

But it is due to reopen on Sunday (September 7), about three weeks earlier than planned as contractors were able to complete the work quicker than expected.
