A NEW sweet shop has officially opened its doors on South Street.

Ashleigh’s Allsorts, founded by manager of the Green Dragon pub Ashleigh Grabham-White, has taken the place of the former Wellington town cobbler which closed its doors in March.

On Saturday, August 2, the new shop hosted a grand opening to showcase the range of sweets, ice cream, bubble tea on offer.

Ashleigh’s Allsorts will now be open from Tuesdays to Saturdays weekly.

Ashleigh said: “I’ve lived here all my life and I’ve seen a lot of shops close down.

“I’m always coming up with random ideas and I thought, Welly needs something a bit different.”

The pub manager said she considered selling sweets from the Green Dragon but with “a lot of empty shops” in town, Ashleigh decided to open up her own sweet shop in the old Wellington Cobbler venue.

The sweet shop will be the second independent business to open its doors in Wellington in the past month, following the establishment of the LEGO-themed café, Brickhaus in July.

The pub manager and business owner said she plans to host activities and events at the new South Street site.

Ashleigh added: “People have been saying that it’s really good to see a sweet shop coming to town.

“It’s exciting. There’s going to be a lot going on at the shop. I’m going to put everything into it and see how it goes.”

Ashleigh’s Allsorts also offers sweet cart hire, with which the owner hopes to sell goods at parties and events in the future. While predominantly a takeaway service, the shop also features bar stools for customers to enjoy their snacks on site.

The shop replaces the Wellington Cobbler, which closed in March after fifty years of having the service in town. The 6 South Street site has until now been unoccupied.
