PENNY PINCHING council officials have left Wellington facing a rising tide of rubbish after removing recycling bins in the town.

Angry town councillors lined up to castigate officials at Taunton Deane Borough Council for removing recycling banks at North Street and Rockwell Green BEFORE rolling out its 'Sort It' kerb side collection scheme, which is not due to come into operation until next Spring.

Speaking at Monday's meeting of the town council, Cllr Peter Critchard said: "It's only going to get worse."

And Cllr Bob Bowrah warned: "We are facing six months of problems in the interim period before kerb side collections start."

The Deane said the decision to reduce the number of 'bring bank' sites early was taken to save money.
