THE former long-term standard bearer of the Wellington branch of the Royal British Legion, Brian Summers, has died at the age of 84.

He passed away peacefully at his home in Wellington and leaves a widow Monica and three sons, Andrew, Tony and Paul, and a daughter Joan.

Mr Summers, who was a coach driver for most of his life, retired at 65. His passion was the British Legion and he held various positions, both at county and local level.

He became a life member of the Royal British Legion in 2013 and was holder of the Lord Lieutenant’s Award in 2012.

After retiring as standard bearer he became a parade marshall.

Brian and Monica had lived in Wellington since 1967.
