WELLINGTON's newest fast-food restaurant is tempting customers in with the offer of a free lunch.

Miss Millie's Fried Chicken is set to open its new store in Westpark on Thursday, May 25, at 10.30 am.

Encouraging patrons through the door will be a special opening day offer which will see the first 50 customers given a free 'classic burger.'

Also up for grabs is a year's supply of burgers, with one customer being able to win a free Miss Millie's burger, every week for a whole year.

The new store will be located in the Shell filling station, where it will join a refurbished Subway as a second fast-food restaurant in the building.

Miss Millie's managing director Carl Traill said: "We are delighted to be opening this new Miss Millies store in Wellington on May 25 and cannot wait for local residents to come and taste our new, delicious menu.

"We want to encourage as many people to come down on opening day and try and grab one of the free 50 burgers on offer. Miss Millie's has been serving awesome chicken in Bristol and the South West for over 30 years.

"We are excited to not only be opening our first forecourt store, but to be taking the Miss Millie's brand further south into Somerset, and the town of Wellington."

The new store follows Miss Millie's reaching an agreement with the Motor Fuel Group (MFG), the UK's largest operator of independent forecourts.

MFG’s food service director Paul Deary said: “Food to go is becoming a growing attraction to our forecourt customers. We are always looking to offer high quality and exciting products and I believe that the introduction of Miss Millie’s ‘awesome chicken’ range will prove to be a success.”

The new Miss Millie's restaurant is just a stone's throw away from the site of a proposed KFC 'drive thru' restaurant planned to be built between the Skylark and Costa Coffee.

The Miss Millie's fried chicken chain takes its name from the granddaughter of Colonel Sanders, the iconic founder and face of KFC.

It was set up by Harry Latham in 1998, who had previously worked as a director for KFC UK and was said to be good friends with the colonel's granddaughter, Mildred.

Westpark was built in 2007 for use as a business and light industry employment site.

Since that time, however, it has transitioned into a mixed use development, as planners awarded permissions for a series of retail, food, and leisure outlets to begin trading at the estate.

Among the businesses which have already been approved are McDonald's, Costa, Subway, Budgens convenience store, two gyms, a Shell petrol station, and the medium-secure mental health Wellesley Hospital.

The Miss Millie's Wellington store will employ 30 members of staff - but not all the jobs have yet been taken. Anybody interested in a job at Miss Millie's should email [email protected].
