A CONTINUING spate of thefts of motorcycles and mopeds in the Wellington area are being investigated by police.

An Avon and Somerset Constabulary spokesperson said the bikes were being stolen and then usually dumped somewhere nearby.

The spokesperson said: “We encourage those who have mopeds and motorbikes to keep them in a well lit, secure location.

“The thieves are ‘hot-wiring’ the bikes, which is usually occurring in the early hours of the morning.”

Police appealed for anybody who had CCTV footage or any information about the thefts to report directly to the force by calling the 101 telephone line, or reporting through the constabulary’s online form on its website.

Or, if anybody witnessed a theft happening they should call the 999 emergency number.
