THE town mayor is buckling up for a mile of cycling on September 1 as part of a 982-mile challenge for World Alzheimer’s Month.
In the UK, more than 982,000 people live with dementia, which is why Bluebird Care have chosen 982 miles, with the hope of raising £1,600 got Alzheimer’s Society.
The Mayor of Wellington, Cllr Janet Lloyd, will be completing the first mile of cycling.
She said: “On September 1, Bluebird Care based at Westpark are embarking on a fundraising challenge to cycle 982 miles for World Alzheimer’s Month.
“I feel honoured to be invited to help them complete the very first mile in the challenge and luckily for me, the bike is static as I have not ridden a bike for many a year!”
