COUNCILLORS have backed Wellington Methodist Church in its funding project to install a new lift.

Members of the church attended Wellington Town Council’s policy and finance committee on April 20 to ask for support towards the much-needed £45,000 project.

Councillors heard that the church had already raised £26,000 and needed some help towards its target.

“There are so many organisations that use the building including upstairs and so it is essential that the lift is working,” said a church spokesman.

“It is very important that the lift is replaced and we’ve been fundraising with various activities and people have been very generous. In a nutshell – we are looking for help.”

Councillors supported awarding a £2,500 grant towards the lift project.
