THE Wellington Park shelter has been vandalised amid planned painting improvements.

The Town Council had begun refurbishment works to the shelter on Wednesday, April 23. The same evening, Heras fencing, which cordoned off the site, was damaged to allow for access to the shelter, where roof tiles were smashed and other parts of the structure vandalised.

It is believed that vandals used drain covers to destroy parts of the shelter, including the roof and two benches. The incident was not reported to the police.

The current repainting works are being undertaken as a result of previous vandalism, which the Town Council say is an ongoing issue.

The works will continue as planned on April 28, with the aim of completing them by May 1, including repairs to the damaged benches.
