ROCKWELL Green Short Bowls Club welcomed Staplegrove to the village hall for a four-mat friendly - and the result was a 44-19 win for the home side. With all players being well known to each other, a lot of chatter ensued. When things finally got underway (Green names first) Joy, Mick & John Y played John L, Dave & Rose. The visitors started well, going into a 5--1 lead. The Green trio then changed tactics and played more aggressive bowls which surprised the visitors and resulted in the Green taking 16 shots over the next four ends. Staplegrove did get a consolation one on the last end but lost 17-6. Next up John S, Reg & Dennis were matched with Sue L, Heather & Paul with neither team gaining more than 1 shot over the first 8 ends but the Green trio then came good scraping a 2 & 3 on the lost two ends to give the Green a hard fought victory 9--4. A long break then ensued for tea/coffee & raffel & more talk about the weather. The Green held a imposing lead at 26–10 at this stage. The restart saw Heather, Bill & Bob against Sue L, Heather & Paul. The Green trio were dominate on the first 7 ends but Staplegrove started a fight back over the last three ends to make the final score 8--6 in the Green's favour. Last to play in the afternoon were Graham, Cass & Mike R who took on the challenge of John, Dave & Rose. The Green held sway through the game, not letting the visitors get a foothold in the match to run out 10--3 winners. While the result of the match is irrelevant, a very enjoyable afternoon was spent with like minded people . For the record the Green came out on top comfortable but it's fair to say Staplegrove's score does not reflect the way they played .
