WELLINGTON Bowling Club's A team gained a splendid away success against Taunton B in South West One.

They won three out of three games which strengthens their position at the top of the league table, having lost only one of their nine matches. If they continue to do well they could be promoted to Premier 2 next year.

Barry Cutler, Bill Warnett, Tony Gibson and Graham Brown were in fine form. They took a big six shots in the first two ends and their good bowling continued throughout the game.

It was difficult for the Taunton side to keep pace. They did their best but the Wellington four could not be caught and they finished it off with a comfortable victory by 25 shots to 10.

On the next rink, Mike Copping, Nick Channon, Paul Kelly and Mike Groves were 2 – 3 down after four ends but they raised their game and took 10 shots over the next three ends to raise their score to 12 – 3.

In the second half they pulled ahead again and despite the Taunton side's best efforts Wellington's foursome went on to win it in style by 23 shots to 9.

On the next rink, Peter White, Mark Bond, Jay Merrell and Phil Ellis had a much closer battle against very strong opposition. The scores moved along slowly in ones and twos and after 10 ends the teams were level on 11 shots each.

The game continued with first one side scoring and then the other. With four ends to play Wellington were 2 up, 14 – 12, and they managed to hold on to their lead until the end. The final score was a four shot win, Wellington 19, Taunton 15.

When all games were completed Wellington celebrated an excellent victory 67 shots to 34 and three wins out of three.
