WELLINGTON Bowling Club have been involved in two exciting inter-club matches.
Wellington Ladies forged a victory at home against three strong teams from Yeovil while Wellington's Lions, who were in second place in the league table, took on top team, Crediton away.
The Lions won one game but lost the other and Crediton's higher score gave them the overall victory on the day.
In the ladies match against Yeovil, Debbie Lane, Pauline Wadham and Ann Cowling were chasing the game early on but they caught up to level it at 9 shots each.
It was a tight finish but Wellington pinched it on the line by three shots 14 – 11.
Wendy Scott, June Anderson and Chrissie Willcocks were on top form. They led 10 – 0 early on and pulled even further ahead to win by a big margin 36 - 7.
Lisa Dart, Janet Moore and Gill Groves found themselves up against three very good bowlers but after nine ends they led 11 – 10. It was looking good but the Yeovil side pulled out all the stops and went on to win it 28 – 13.
Despite losing on the last rink, Wellington were the overall winners by 63 to 46 and by two games to one.
In the Lions' match against Crediton, Jay Merrell, Julian Street and Graham Brown were level with the opposition at 11 shots each after 14 ends but the Crediton team pulled ahead to win it 21 – 11.
Nick Channon, Paul Kelly and Mike Groves found themselves in a very close match. The scores were 9 – 9 after 10 ends but they bowled exceptionally well to pull ahead and win by two shots 18 – 16.
Both teams were happy to win a game but the overall winners were Crediton, by 37 - 29.
