ELEVEN different competitions have been open to members of Wellington Bowling Club during this summer's outdoor season.

Many have taken the opportunity to enter one or more in order to test their skill and try to get through to one or more of the eleven finals.

In every competition, the entrants were “drawn out of a hat” to decide who would play who.

There were 21 entries for the Amy Stanton Mixed Pairs competition.The two pairs left to fight it out in the semi-finals were Ernie Windsor and Angie Moore against Steve and Carol Horrill while, in the second semi, Ian Hollingsworth and Linda Dart played Jay Merrell and Janet Moore.

The Horrills came through after a close match 14 – 10 and Ian and Linda won comfortably 28 – 5. so the finalists are Steve and Carol against Ian and Linda.

In the Aussie Pairs, Julian Street and Graham Brown had a comfortable semi-final win against Mike Groves and Mike Copping while Bill Warnett and Tony Gibson had a closer battle against John and Debbie Lane but Bill and Tony came through in the end, 21 – 15.

More than thirty members entered the Open Championship Singles competition. Graham Brown made it to the final following a bye in the semi-final and he will face Jay Merrell who had a good win against Mike Groves, 21 – 13.

More than 20 bowlers entered the Two Wood Singles competition. In the semi-finals Barry Cutler won 14 – 7 against Ernie Windsor while Julian Street went through to the final with a good victory against Jay Merrell.

In the Men's Handicap Singles competition 24 members entered but only four were left to play the semi-finals. Paul Kelly won his comfortably against Robert Newton while Graham Brown and Steve Horrill had a real humdinger. It was close all the way through but Steve won it in the end by one shot 21 – 20 .

There were a good number of entries for the New Bowlers competition but only four of them made it through to the semi-final. Andrew Copping won against David Harrison after a closely fought match 21 – 13 and Barry Cutler won comfortably against Robin Shaw in the other semi final.

The Ladies Championship singles was highly contested but the four to get through to the semi-finals were June Anderson who won a well fought match against Wendy Scott and Pauline Wadham who played very well for a good win against Diana Dagg.

In the Ladies Two Wood competition Diana Dagg got through to the final against June Anderson who had a very tight game in her semi-final against Pauline Wadham, before eventually winning 19 – 13.

More than 30 entered the Men's Championship Singles competition. Both semi-finals were very close matches. Julian Street came through against John Lane, 23 – 16 and Tony Gibson beat Bill Warnett 21 – 13, so Julian and Tony will fight it out in the final.

The last of the 11 competitions was the Ladies Handicap Singles. Diana Dagg played her way through to her second final in the competition while Pauline Wadham came through after a very tight match against Wendy Scott, eventually winning by 21 – 19.
