WELLINGTON Ladies’ bid to reach the quarter-finals of the Fear Cup, the Somerset inter-club bowls competition, has been dashed by Ilminster.

It was a close run thing, though. Wellington won two of the three games - but found themselves ten shots down overall at the end.

Pauline Wadham, Diana Dagg, June Anderson and Lynda Manning were involved in a tight battle and it was 11 – 11 at the halfway point, but they pulled ahead for a good win by 20 – 15.

Debbie Lane, Lisa Dart, Angie Moore and Gill Groves were also involved in a close game but with one to play were 13 – 14 down. However, a three in the last gave them a well deserved 16 – 14 victory.

Janet Moore, Wendy Scott, Shirley Samuel and Chrissie Willcocks did their best in a bid to make it three wins but the Ilminster side won comfortably 22 – 5 to ensure an overall victory for the South Somerset club, by 51 – 41.
