THREE ladies from Wellington Bowling Club entered the Webber Ladies' Triples Tournament at Watchet again this year - and this time they came away with the trophy after playing some splendid bowls.

June Anderson, Angie Moore and Lynda Manning came second when they entered the competition last year, so they were determined to do their best to reach the top of the tree and win the cup this year.

Sixteen teams entered and after playing against sides from North Petherton, Bridgwater, Minehead and Watchet, and being the only team to win all of their four matches, they went one better than last year and came first.

All of the games they played were hard fought. Bowlers from the West Somerset clubs were all very capable so it was even more satisfying that June, Angie and Lynda were able to win all their games against strong local opposition.

Meanwhile, Wellington Bowling Club ladies bowled at home and away against very capable ng teams from Isle of Wedmore. They not only played well but they finished with a victory on their home green and on the away green as well to record a fine double.

Jane Hayes, Angie Moore, Shirley Samuel and skip Brenda Wilson found themselves in a closely fought game but they came through in the end to win by four shots, 20 – 16.

Wellington's second team played at Isle of Wedmore on the Somerset Levels. The club is proud of the quality of its green but it didn't help them very much this time.

Tracey Richbell, Jane Lovell, June Anderson and skip Marguerite Nichols settled quickly and turned on the style win handsomely 29 – 8. The overall result was Wellington 49, Wedmore 24.

Captain Brenda Wilson was delighted with the result and congratulated her teams on a good win - at home and away.
