FORMER local football club Sampford Blues FC are holding a reunion and charity fun cricket match at the beginning of next month.

It will be staged at Brompton Ralph Cricket Club, whose senior sides play in the West Somerset Cricket League, and will be played on Sunday, July 6, with the start of the game being around 1.30p.m.

The Blues, as they were always known, were formed in June, 1990, during the football World Cup, at the Blue Ball Inn, Sampford Moor. At one time the club fielded three men’s teams that competed Taunton Saturday & Sunday Football Leagues, with their final game being played in April, 2015.

The club was a prominent figure in the local community with many players donning the Blue and Black shirt that was exclusively sponsored by Bussel Plant during its history.

The reunion offers the opportunity for all past players, officials, supporters, sponsors, etc., and their families to get together one last time in order the reminisce about days gone by, while enjoying some fun cricket together.

Nick Buttle said: “On the day we will be raising some monies for local cancer charities, with a donation for playing cricket, along with a raffle & BBQ on the day. We would like to say a big thank-you to Brompton Ralph cricket club and their kind generosity for allowing us to host the event at their superb facility with bar and extensive facilities for the afternoon.

“We are sure it is going to be a very special day - particularly for those ex-players who have not seen each other in recent years. The club enjoyed some very good times and players enjoyed playing for one of its sides.”
