WELLINGTON are up to second in the Somerset Division of the West of England Premier Cricket League after beating bottom side North Perrott by 18 runs away in their latest match.

However Perrott, who had won only one of their previous 12 matches, looked at one stage as if they might pull off an unexpected victory.

Chasing a target of 241 to win, they were 124 for one before Wellington’s bowlers finally broke through, their last nine wickets going down for the addition of only 98 runs.

Put into bat, Wellington scored 240-9 in their 50 overs with former skipper and opener Arron Campbell knocking 93 in a patient 141-minute innings, hitting 15 fours. Luke Desave scored 41 and shared in an opening stand of 76 with Campbell while James Hibbert hit 50.

Perrott’s most successful bowlers were Sam Rowswell who took 3-40 while Krishnan Subramanian finished with figures of 3-34.

Opener George Retter top scored for Perrott with 67 and shared in a second-wicket partnership of 73 with Ronnie Frost (28) which was eventually broken by Campbell. Sri Lankan Lakshan Edirisinghe snapped up 4-28 while there were also wickets for Stian Smith and Nathan Yarde as the home side were all out for 222.

Victory enabled Wellington to move above Yeovil who went down to a surprisingly heavy 173-run home defeat against Wembdon. Yeovil were bowled out for 133 after Wembdon had scored 306 all out.

Ilminster stay top of the table - they have a 24-point lead over Wellington - after they gained an eight-wicket success at home to Frome, who were bowled out for 165.

Yeovil now trail Wellington by eight points while Temple Cloud, in fourth place, kept in touch with the leading teams with a four-wicket win at Taunton who lost for the eighth time this season despite scoring 313-6 in their 50 overs.
