WIVELISCOMBE gained only their fourth victory of the season when they beat North Curry by 26 runs in the third division of the Somerset Cricket League.
And although they share bottom spot with fellow strugglers Spaxton, they still have a faint chance of avoiding relegation although Minehead 2nd XI, who are lying one place above them, have 36 more points.
Batting first against Curry, Wiveliscombe scored 215-4 in their 40 overs with openers Joe Welch (69) and Richard Morrison (21) putting on 83 for the first wicket. Tom Welch also scored 34 not out and Henry Welch 28 while William Cartwright took 3-30.
When Curry batted, Sam Robinson scored a rapid 84 off 59 balls, with 11 fours and three sixes, while Rupert Baverstock hit 34 in almost as many balls. But Curry’s late-order batters failed to put them in a winning position and the visitors were bowled out for 189 in 36.3 overs with Morrison taking 4-33.
