WELLINGTON Association Football Club have held an awards night for their three men’s teams following a successful season.
More than 100 players, officials and supporters were welcomed by the chairman Mike Hall who thanked everyone involved in the club for their efforts during the past year.
One of the most successful players was first teamer Glen Wright who won the Players’ Player (Selwyn Aspin Memorial Cup) and Supporters’ Player (Chairman’s Cup).
Jack Bryant also received two awards for the Reserves - Leading scorer and Supporters’ Player.
The three managers – Richard Cherry (firsts), Mark Owen (Reserves) and Matt Groves (A team, joint with Warren Toth) – each reviewed the season before the presentation of awards.
The first team finished in a very respectable 13th place in the Premier Division of the Jewson Western League. The Reserves finished in a top-three spot in the Premier Division of the Devon & Exeter League while the A team came second from bottom in the Premier Division of the Taunton Saturday League.
Winners were: CLUB AWARD - Young Player of the Year (Keith Davey Cup) – Dylan Groves. FIRST TEAM - Leading Scorer (Jeff Fleet Cup) – Jake Quick; Players’ Player (Selwyn Aspin Memorial Cup) – Glen Wright; Manager’s Player – Mark Cornish; Supporters’ Player (Chairman’s Cup) – Glen Wright.
RESERVES - Leading Scorer – Jack Bryant; Players’ Player (John Stevens Cup) – Alfie Barratt; Manager’s Player (Lloyd Manning Memorial Cup) – Sam Bryant; Supporters’ Player – Jack Bryant.
A TEAM - Leading Scorer – Jordan Sellick; Players’ Player (Neil Jenkins Trophy) – Mitch Hansen; Manager’s Player (Roger Nunn Cup) – Aiden Trott.
There were also presentations to several club helpers including to Lauren Watts, who has stepped down after three years as sports therapist with the club.
The club’s Wildcats Ladies are holding their awards night on Saturday, June 14, Wellington Ladies on Saturday, May 24th, while presentations to the various boys’ and girls’ teams are taking place throughout May and June.
