WELLINGTON goalkeeper Chandler Hallett has been given the all-clear to play football again after suffering a heart scare last October.

Hallett, who is training to be a PSCO, collapsed twice in one day while working in October. After being examined, his ECG came back as abnormal.

Since then he has had further tests and been told he can play again.

Wellington manager Tim Legg stressed this week that he still regarded Tom Welch as the club’s number one goalkeeper. “Chandler is not always available on Saturdays because of his job,” he said. “That makes it very difficult.”

Chandler, who had a loan spell with Southern League Taunton Town in the 2018-19 season, joined Wellington last season after being a professional with Doncaster Rovers.

“It is very nice to have a player of Chandler’s quality to bring in if needed,” said Legg.

Meanwhile, Legg is backing the club’s vision to have a pitch at the Longforth estate and would also like to have a G3 facility, not only for Wellington but for the community.

“It would be great to play on and to train,” he added. “You could play two or three games on it a day. Matches would not be affected by the weather.

“It would also get our players used to playing on such a surface. We play some games on artificial pitches in away games and it is not easy. The opposition have an advantage.”
