WELLINGTON will be in FA Cup action on Saturday when they play away to Toolstation League Premier Division rivals Bridport in the extra preliminary round of the competition, writes Barry Knott.
However they go into the tie without suspended defenders Kai Fisher and Joe Chamberlain who were given their marching orders in the 3-1 defeat at Westbury in their opening Toolstation League match over the weekend.
The winners on Saturday will receive £2,250 in prizemoney with the losers taking home £750. There will be no extra time and if the tie ends in a draw the replay will be at Cullompton the following Wednesday.
If they beat Bridport, Wellington will play away to either Hallen or Longwell Green in the preliminary round - with prizemoney of £2,890 for the winners.
“Obviously we would like a good cup run and the money would be very handy too,” said Wellington boss Clive Jones who admitted he was ‘bitterly disappointed’ by the result at Westbury.
“Ill-discipline cost us three points,” he said. “I thought we were just getting on top when we got the first sending off. You can’t win games with nine men. I told the lads at half time someone was going to be sent off if we didn’t show more discipline.”
“This will not shape our season. But it was a great pity after all the hard work I and the players have put in in pre-season. But I must remain positive. I thought Jack Bryant had a tremendous game, despite having to move positions.
“I know I have to address discipline and it will not get me down.:
