WELLINGTON’S football manager Clive Jones has already spoken to about 20 players in his bid to strengthen his side for next season.
Wellington finished 16th in the Premier Division of the Toolstation League - a position Jones says is unacceptable. “It is very difficult when you cannot offer players money or contracts,” said Jones. “But some have already said they will come training.
“But this is the silly season when players don’t have to make up their minds. And to be honest very few of them have a connection with Wellington.
“I have been speaking to players who have played at all levels - Southern, Western and County football. Some of them I’ve not even seen play.
“I have already said things are not going to stay the same. The management of both the first team and reserves is in place.”
Jones has also expressed his disappointment at the decision of the Toolstation League to exclude Chard Town from the first division next season because of their sloping pitch.
“It has been an issue for a long time and perhaps it might be a blessing in disguise in the long term. However, I do feel for them because they have played in the Western League for a very long time.”
