WELLINGTON’S football chairman Mike Hall says no announcement will be made about Clive Jones’ future with the club until he returns from a holiday in St Lucia next week.

Both the club and manager Jones agree that recent talks have “gone well.”

Jones is being pursued by at least three other clubs but has enjoyed his four seasons with his home town club.

Although the Wellington club and Jones have not discussed publicly what has gone on in talks, it is known that the manager may be offered a playing budget.

Under treasurer Reg Oxby, the Wellington club is in a healthy and good financial position and some of its cash could be spent on players.

Jones has the backing of the club’s committee and supporters and it would be a big loss if he were to leave.

Meanwhile, Jones would not have been happy when he heard the result of Saturday’s game at home to Cadbury Heath - a side below them in the table. Wellington dominated the game for long spells but still lost 2-1.

“I thought we were the better side in both halves,” said acting manager Ben Welsh, who became assistant to Jones at the beginning of the season.

“The result was disappointing because they only had two shots on target. We’re just lacking that little bit of quality - particularly in front of goal. We got ourselves in good positions but could not finish. They were far more clinical.”

Meanwhile, Wellington are without a match in the Premier Division of the Toolstation League for three weeks and because of this they could find themselves falling in the table.

They have played more games than any other side below them. At the moment they are 12th with 33 points from 31 games.

Jones is keen to top last year’s figure - 42 points from 38 matches when they finished 15th.
