WELLINGTON’S assistant manager Alex Pope will be in charge of the side for the next three games while boss Tim Legg is in South Africa.

The 32-year-old joined Wellington in November, having managed Minehead in the Somerset County League for a year.

He is currently working full time as a coach with the Exeter City Academy which has a reputation for producing League players.

Pope’s first game in charge would have been on Saturday but the home game against Roman Glass St George was called off because of a waterlogged pitch along with the match against Keynsham Town earlier in the week.

Weather permitting, Wellington are due to play at home to Brislington in the Premier Division of the Toolstation League this coming weekend (3.00). Not only will Wellington be looking to win their first game since early October but they will also be hoping to pull off the season’s double against their opponents, having won 3-0 at Brislington, earlier this season.

Despite their poor run, Pope said: “I believe we’re making progress. We are conceding less goals and the players have opened up to our ideas. We’re expecting an up-turn soon.”

Although second from bottom in the table, Pope added: “I firmly believe we can stay up. It is a transition period at the moment. We have tried to set out a vision and I think the players can see this.”

Pope confirmed that Josh Wadham’s return to the side is permanent, having left Cullompton Rangers.

Meanwhile, Wellington Reserves will be hoping for a return to action when they play away to Dawlish United in Division One of the Devon and Exeter League while Hemyock are home to Pinhoe in the third division.

Wellington A, four points clear in Division Two of the Taunton Saturday League, are without a game.
