WELLINGTON A gained their second win in three days when they beat Galmington Reserves 3-1 in the Taunton Saturday League’s Rowbarton Charity Cup at Bridgwater on Monday evening.

Following a positive league result at the weekend, Wellington went into the game full of confidence and looking to carry that momentum into the cup.

However, it was Galmington, a well-organised team, who started the brighter of the two sides, putting Wellington under pressure early on.

Against the run of play, the Tangerines opened the scoring through Alfie Hill, who coolly finished after a great assist from Cam Perry Jones.

Wellington defended their advantage well and went into the break 1–0 up.

Galmington came out strongly after the restart and managed to find an equaliser early in the second half with a header at the back post.

The goal seemed to wake Wellington up, and they began to grow into the game and dominate possession.

Their pressure eventually paid off when Tom Scarlett was fouled, giving them a free kick in a dangerous position. Up stepped Jayden Nicholson, who produced an unreal effort to restore Wellington’s lead.

The Tangerines continued to control the game, and moments later a quick free kick from Scarlett caught Galmington off guard. The ball fell to Hill, who made no mistake, slotting home his second of the game to make it 3–1 and effectively put the game beyond doubt.

A strong second-half performance saw Wellington see the game out comfortably and secure their place in the next round of the cup.

A two-goal performance from Hill earned him player of the match - he now has an impressive five goals in his last two games and is proving a real threat in front of goal.
