WELLINGTON Town extended their unbeaten start to the season with a comprehensive 5-0 victory over visitors Middlezoy Harriers in Division 2 of the Under 16 section of the HO SoccerTaunton and District Youth Football League.
Town, who exuded confidence from the start, scored twice inside the opening five minutes, with Gbuyi O opening the scoring before Ryan M doubled their lead from a Jack B corner. The in-form Gbuyi O extended Town’s advantage in the 15th minute, outpacing the Harriers’ defence and rounding the keeper to make it 3-0.
Middlezoy came close to reducing the deficit moments later, only for Leo M to produce an excellent save to preserve Town’s three-goal cushion.
On the stroke of half-time, Jack B sent Gbuyi O through on goal once more, the forward producing a delicious chip over the advancing goalkeeper to cap a dominant first-half display and send Town into the break with a commanding 4-0 lead.
The second half became an increasingly physical affair as Middlezoy looked to get back into the game and reduce the deficit. However, Town’s discipline and composure ensured the visitors were unable to build any real momentum, with the hosts maintaining their defensive shape and control of the game despite growing pressure from the visitors.
With two minutes remaining, Seb N’s excellent long-range pass sent Gbuyi O through on goal once more, allowing the striker to grab his fourth goal of the afternoon and seal a resounding 5-0 victory.
This was Wellington’s fourth win in four league matches and they occupy top spot with Bridgwater Wolves and North Curry who have the same records. Wellington play away to Wolves on Sunday.
Fixtures, Sunday, October 25: Bridgwater Wolves v Wellington Town, Middlezoy Rovers Harriers v Staplegrove Spartans, North Curry v Wembdon Junior Dragons, Watchet Town Red & Blacks v Minehead Youth.
