WELLINGTON Wildcats are the early leaders of Under 13 South in the Somerset Girls Football League after beating North Curry 3-1 away.

Wildcats started brightly, keeping possession and passing the ball well. Playing down the slope they created early chances without finding the finish, until a neat pass from Stevie W put Sara M through on goal and she calmly placed the ball in the bottom corner.

The rest of the first half was a hard fought affair with North Curry working their way back into the game; the half ended 1-0 to the Wildcats.

With the Wildcats now playing up the slope, North Curry utilised their advantage and started to put pressure on the Wildcats goal, creating a few chances which were defended well.

The Wildcats’ second goal came from a poor goal kick from North Curry, which went directly to Hetty H who didn’t need any prompting to dispatch the ball into the net for 2-0.

North Curry were not put off and came back fighting - they started to dominate possession and their efforts paid off with a goal from a fantastic individual strike.

Closing in on full-time the Wildcats kept things tight and were rewarded when a long kick from goalkeeper Remi S was persistently chased by Hetty H, causing the goalkeeper to misjudge the ball as it bounced over her head and into the net for a goal direct from the goalkeeper.

The last few minutes were a tense affair but the Wildcats saw it out for another league win. The girls put in a great amount of work on a very hard pitch and should be proud of their victory. Player of the match went to Remi S for her stability between the sticks and who can forget the goal!

Wildcats U16s played their first home game against a strong Ilminster side in a highly competitive, hard-fought match.

Wildcats settled well and found some fluid passing on both flanks, Flo G and Lola S finding success.

Some decent opportunities arose but they were unable to test the keeper. Ilminster began to find their rhythm, and as anticipated were very strong from set pieces; and failing to deal with a two corners resulted in two goals. Wildcats through Lily F and Flo N, Lacey BG and Frankie P tried to push forward but again were unable to find that elusive finish.

The second half followed a similar pattern, starting well with fluid passing and movement; they caused problems for Ilminster but again not finding that finishing touch.

Ilminster’s third and final goal came from a free kick which summed up the Wildcats’ morning.

Coming out on the wrong end of a 3-0 defeat was disappointing, but there were plenty of positives to take and the group knows what they need to do, to improve as a team for the future.

Player of the match went to Frankie P for her commitment and performance in a variety of roles and positions.

Wildcats U12s were beaten 8–2 at home by Bridgwater United in South Division.

It was a difficult game for the Wildcats, who found it hard to deal with Bridgwater’s pressure. The visitors took their chances well and built a comfortable lead during the game.

Chloe G, named Wildcats’ Player of the Match, scored the home side’s first goal while Betsy P netted their second.
