WELLINGTON may be without midfielder Sam Towler for a month after he was hurt in a motoring accident while on a night out “with the lads” in Bournemouth.
Manager Clive Jones said yesterday: “Sam says it was his own fault - he walked out in front of a taxi.”
Towler, who is in his second spell with Wellington, had to have eight stitches inserted into his head and suffered bruised rips and damaged a leg.
“I told him he ought to feel lucky he was not hurt more seriously,” said Jones.
Ironically, he would not have been available for Saturday’s home game against Almondsbury UWE because he is suspended. Almondsbury are bottom of Division One of the Toolstation League and Jones added: “That is a problem for me. We have to be in the right frame of mind because they can play football. It surprises me that they are on the bottom of the table.
“This is the kind of league where anyone can beat anyone on their day.”
Wellington go into the match with the same number of points as leaders Keynham who have a slightly better goal difference - one! - but have played one more match.
Meanwhile Wellington were due to play away to Bath City last night in the second round of the Somerset Premier Cup, the original tie having been postponed last week because the pitch was waterlogged.
Jones was likely to make changes from the side which beat Welton Rover 2-1 at home on Saturday, with 16-year-old Connor Pengelly making his first start. He has played for Wellington, but only as a substitute.
Wellington Reserves are again without a game while Hemyock, who scored 12 goals over the weekend (see inside) are home to Lakeside Reserves in the Devon Intermediate Cup.
Wellington Thirds, who are ten points clear of the field in Division Seven in the Devon and Exeter League, are home to their Sidmouth Town counterparts.
